Sharlene graduated from UNP with an Honours Degree in Drama in 1985 and obtained the top student award for an IMM Marketing Diploma in 1992. Prior to starting out as an independent consultant in 1993, Sharlene was Marketing Manager at the Playhouse.
Sharlene has been involved in countless launches and events over the years including the opening of thre Durban ICC (with President Nelson Mandela), Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom, (with then-KZN Premier Sbu Ndebele and King Goodwill Zwelithini), the African Renaissance Festival, Riverhorse Valley Business Park, Wavehouse and the BAT Centre and has worked on many international events with major celebrities and personalities.
One of the highlights of her career was working as the publicist with the renowned author Breyten Breytenbach and publisher Ad Donker when they was established the Centre for Creative Arts at UKZN – a relationship she enjoyed for close to 19 years. The CCA runs the Durban International Film Festival and three other festivals all of which have grown to be respected arts events in the City of Durban.
Sharlene has also had extensive experience working with corporate clients, NGO’s and governmental agencies including the eThekwini Municiaplity’s Durban Film Office and it’s Durban FilmMart, SPAR KZN, Unilever and is currently on the comms team together with global ad agency Ogilvy on Durban’s new integrated public transport network – GO!Durban.
